This blog is part of a classroom project, which demonstrated how "easy" setting up your own website could be. All that was required was to go to Weeby.com, enter in an e-mail and password and PUFF! Instant Website. The best part was it is completely free! This free service allowed me to create a space for my individual voice. It is almost an empowering feeling. If creating my own website empowered me then it can empower future generations. Technology does have a purpose and it does offer lightning speed information, but what are the long term effects of constant exposure? As this course continues, I am sure that some of my questions will find a few answers.
Technology is the new wave of the future. It is also the future of the educational system. There are controversial issues surrounding the use of technology in the classrooms. Is it really instructional or is it a means to pacify our children? Is it possible that students can actually gain a broader understanding of fundamental building blocks through the use of technology? As a returning student to the Master's of Education program, I am constantly subjected to the reality of technology and how it will become/ or should be the future of education. While I do agree that technology can and does provide a beneficial way of helping individuals/students gain understanding and competence in specific content area. It is the opposing opinion that technology might become a crutch for others. This crutch becomes apparent when you watch a skinny fifteen-year old panic behind a broken down cash register. How does he count change? Does he panic because he has relied on technology to provide the answer? Or does he use his mind to do the math? While I am in the process of understanding the importance of technology in the classroom, I am not without my reserves about "how" much technology should be allowed into the classroom.
